Tortilla salad wraps are a classic summer recipe I make a lot of for dinner and lunch. It can’t get any easier than using fresh summer produce with salad dressing and my favorite salad toppings then rolling it in a flat wrap.

Chicken Caesar Wraps are nothing new. In fact, most cafes serve them for lunch along side other sandwich options. What I like most about using a wrap in place of bread is that it’s less messier and it changes the flavor. Plus, I don’t know many sandwiches that feature as many salad dressings with a wide array of different toppings. Great for meal prep lunch idea or a quick dinner on the go.

CLASSIC CHICKEN SALAD WRAP INGREDIENTS

CHICKEN: I use rotisserie chicken to make my salad wraps. Other options include cooking your own chicken or using chicken from a salad bar at the grocery store. I make my own rotisserie chicken recipe weekly or I buy it from the grocery store. Cut or shred it to bite size pieces.

LETTUCE: Romaine or butter lettuce work best. Spinach can also be mixed with either of these lettuce varieties. They are hearty and crunchy and add texture. Cut your own or buy a salad kit.

SALAD DRESSING: Use your favorite brand of caesar salad dressing. If you buy a caesar salad kit prepared and bagged from the store, be sure to pick up a bottle of dressing since wraps use more dressing than your typical salad.

TOMATOES: Cherry tomatoes or roma tomatoes are my favorites to use in salads. Dice them no larger than traditional crouton size.

HARD CHEESE: Shredded parmesan cheese adds a lot of flavor to the salad wrap. A hard cheese like parmesan will add more flavor than mozzarella or cheddar cheese.

CROUTONS: Use your favorite kind of croutons or make your own with bread and olive oil. Croutons are my favorite salad topping and they really add delicious flavor and crunch to the chicken wraps.

TORTILLA WRAPS: Salad wraps can be made with a variety of different breads. Traditionally, I use medium size flour tortillas or flat-out salad wraps that comes in spinach or tomato flavors. For low-carb or vegetable flavor wraps, head to your bread aisle or find near the fresh product or in the international aisle next to classic tortilla shells.

SALAD INGREDIENT TOPPINGS & FLAVOR VARIATIONS

Typical salad toppings can include a variety of traditional salad ingredients like fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, bacon, protein, cheese, croutons, and jarred salad toppings.

🗹 VEGETABLES: Green onions red onions garlic add extra flavor that will transform any salad wrap. Other vegetables include sliced zucchini celery shredded carrots snow peas edamame corn olives.

🗹 DRIED FRUIT: Dried cranberries, dried apricots, prunes, and cherries are some salad toppings that I experiment with adding to extra flavor or to mix things up from getting boring.

🗹 FLAVORFUL PROTEIN: Bacon #1 on my list. Everything tastes better with bacon and every salad needs bacon. Make your own or stir in bacon salad toppings Tofu turkey can be substituted for chicken Chickpeas nuts are another great option for added protein. Freshly sliced avocado or canned beans are other protein ingredients. In addition, sliced ham or an array of deli meats can make choosing a protein much more convenient.

CHICKEN WRAP TIPS & QUESTIONS

I want to make salad wraps on Sunday for my meal prep. Can I still use dressing without it getting soggy? I suggest buying little salad dressing containers to easily store salad dressing and other toppings. They range in a variety of sizes from 2 ounces to 5 ounces. They come in handy for dressings, fresh fruit cups, and sides.

Can I make my own chicken or do I have to use a rotisserie chicken? Plan ahead and make your own chicken. I like to make my own whole rotisserie chicken recipe in the Instant Pot, but salad bars also sell diced chicken.

What are some other ingredients I can add to change things up a bit? Scroll up above the photo and I give dozens of substitutions, ingredient additions, and flavor combinations.
